About

I am an educator with almost 25 years of experience. My career spans various educational settings, including teaching at a K-12 private school in Istanbul, Türkiye, and higher education institutions in Dubai (University of Wollongong) and Sharjah (Higher Colleges of Technology), United Arab Emirates. I am a keen learner, and throughout my career, I attended several professional development courses such as Pilgrims, UK (Secondary Teaching & LCCI Certificate in Business English) and earned qualifications such as the Cambridge ESOL’s CELTA (Pass A), and DELTA (Merit). I hold a BA (Hons) degree in English Language and Literature from Bogazici University and an MA (Hons) in Education Administration and Supervision at Yeditepe University, both in Türkiye. I am currently a PhD candidate at Lancaster University, UK, in E-Research and Technology Enhanced Learning. Since 2013, I have used technology in education and carried out leadership roles that enabled me to build and manage digital platforms such as Blackboard Learn & SharePoint sites. To increase my knowledge, I obtained professional certifications such as Blackboard Certified Expert, Microsoft Certified Educator, Advanced Nearpod Certified Educator, and AI Prompt Engineering to follow ed-tech trends and apply them in various teaching and learning contexts. I have extensive experience creating engaging and visually appealing lesson materials using Nearpod and BookWidgets, as well as teaching English at all CEFR levels. Besides teaching, I have taken on various leadership roles throughout my career, such as team leader, level head, course representative team leader, and course management team leader. In my most recent role, I served as a System Course Team Leader (SCTL) for our division at HCT from November 2019 to August 2024. In this leadership role, I designed Blackboard Learn for various courses across 16 campuses in the UAE. During this process, I also updated curricula, developed assessments and materials for all English faculty (60+) and specific student cohorts (1500+). To share and enhance knowledge, I delivered workshops for the English language faculty and coordinated materials development initiatives. A notable project I led in this position was the LSC Materials Database, a repository of over 5,000 online materials developed by our faculty and shared with five other institutions in the UAE, which I presented at the international TESOL conference in Dubai in 2023. I received an Excellence in Teaching Award in 2021, recognizing my efforts as an instructor and a leader in our division. I'm currently a doctoral researcher at Lancaster University, UK, focusing mainly on GenAI adoption, use and perception of English language teachers (ESL/EFL).
